| On June 16th, Marc performed at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C for the Committee of 100 in recognition of the Sichuan earthquake relief efforts. The following day he performed at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Marc left a strong impression on both audiences, not only through his music, but also his words. While in China recently, Marc had the opportunity to visit the Shanghai Children’s Hospital, where many of the earthquake victims had been transferred. That evening in D.C., during an emotionally charged speech, he shared his impressions of this visit and some of the stories the victims told. Many in the audience were moved to tears, including his interpreter, who began crying so badly that she could not finish translating for Marc. Standing center stage at the end of the show, Marc was congratulated by every VIP present, shaking hands and posing for photos with, among others, U. S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice; U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson and China’ s Vice-Premier, Wang Qishan. Again we ask you please to help the survivors of the Sichuan earthquake by making a donation to the Committee of 100 China Earthquake Relief Fund or any other honorable charities offering their support, The next day, June 17th at the Naval Academy, where the U.S.–China Strategic Economic Dialogue was taking place, Marc performed and spoke in front of the U.S. Cabinet; the Chinese Vice-Premier and other officials about the earthquake as well as his concerns for the environment, again leaving a strong impression on his audience. July 17th, Marc appeared on National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered”. You can hear the interview plus a special performance on the NPR website for a limited time. Marc will be doing many interviews this summer, some of them with Lang Lang, to promote their upcoming appearance together this August 31st at London’s Royal Albert Hall. We are pleased to report that the concert is officially now sold out! A special thanks to everyone who is able to attend that evening and share in Marc's dream come true to perform at the Proms! |
